Up for auction is a totally stock, first year of production, 1979 Gibson Les Paul Artist. The Artist is a very rare guitar that was only made between the years 1979 and 1981. It was introduced to be a step up from the Les Paul Standard and a step down from the Les Paul Custom. The Artist has many features not standard to Les Pauls.
-Active electronics, which are controlled by the three toggle switches below the bridge.These electronics make the Artist a unique sounding guitar, and give it many tonal variations.The three switches are compression, expansion, and brightness. The one that I used the most was the compression switch, which greatly increases the volume of the guitar in addition to working like a normal outboard compressor. Using the other switches you can get a tone that seems suited for jazz or chord work with shimmering arpeggios.
-Brass nut, which makes this guitar a sustain master.
-Fine tuneing bridge
The Original Gibson humbuckers sound great.
They seem to be a little hotter than your standard Les Paul pickups
Combined with the thick body, this guitar has the complete tone package.
This guitar is setup very well.
The action is extremely low without fret buzz.
This guitar has alot of wear on the back of the neck, as seen in the pictures, but the frets are in pretty good shape.There are some small grooves on the first and second fret, but for being 29 years old and original, they are in pretty good shape.
