This Martin J-40 M is a acoustic dreadnaught guitar with a solid spruce top, rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck, hexagon inlays, ebony bridge with white abalone dot pins, rosewood peghead veneer, and gold tuners. The J-40 M was renamed the J-40 in the early 90s.
This guitar has a 14-fret mahogany neck, 20-fret fingerboard with abalone hexagon inlays, 1-11/16' nut width, 25.4' scale. The action on the guitar is low. To my knowledge, there is no buzz at any of the frets and the intonation is great. This guitar has an incredible tonal range. The large body provides for booming low end and clear warm highs.
There is only one strap button at the bottom. A second button hole was never drilled.
The serial number is 481184 (pictured). The guitar was manufactured in 1987 and purchased in 1988.Since its purchase, it has been stored appropriately in climate/humidity controlled environment. I am the second owner. The first owner was a relative who owned a musical instrument store.
The guitar is in excellent condition. Except as described below, the guitar shows almost no wear on the neck, headstock, tuners, pegs, front or back veneer. Any scratches are microscopic and can only be seen in reflected light. There is no gouging and just a few minor pick dimples on the front. My camera does not zoom in close enough to show these details.
The guitar comes in the original hardshell c
