This is a rare 1994 Epiphone Blues Master (Serial # S94080007). The Blues Master is a parlor size acoustic that Epiphone manufactured in Korea. I have read reports that only about 500 were made before they changed the model name to Song Writer, but I haven’t been able to confirm that number. This small body acoustic has a spruce top, mahogany laminate back and sides, mahogany neck and a cream bound, rosewood fingerboard attached to the body at the 12th fret. Wide fingerboard with nut width of 1 7/8 inches designed for fingerpicking. The body is double bound with cream and herringbone. The back has a center inlaid strip of herringbone. The ebony veneer headstock has a high gloss finish with inlaid “Epiphone” and crown logo. This is a visually beautiful guitar.
I am not the first owner, but everything appears to be original. The guitar is in very good condition with one small chip on the back of the headstock, a tiny dent on the bridge behind the A-string pin (see photos) and a very small scuff on the front of the headstock that I couldn’t get to show up in a picture. The neck is in great shape, the action is good – no buzzing – and the frets show minimal wear for a 13 year old.
Although Korean made (at the Samick Guitars plant), the construction is very good quality and the tone is outstanding. It’s hard to find a compact guitar that can hold its own the way this one can. That’s why it has been one of Keb Mo’s favorites for many years. On the flip side,
