Rare 1988 Gretsch TW 500 Traveling Wilbury Guitar
This is the top of the line model. All of these were individual designs . No two were alike.A bit larger than some of the other models. Only one small insignificant blemish keeps this from being mint.Killer pickups and tone along with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard. NO wear at all.
Limited edition guitar was produced in cooperation with George Harrision, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne.
Once the idea of a full, collaborative album was in front of us, George took over. The five front men (Harrison, Lynne, Petty, Dylan, and Orbison) decided not to use their own names. George and Jeff had been calling studio equipment (limiters, equalizers) “wilburys.” So first, they named their fivesome The Trembling Wilburys Jeff suggested “Traveling” instead. Everyone agreed.
The group was born: five guys who had star stature in their own rights, but it was George who created this Wilbury environment where five stars could get into an ego-free collaboration. Everybody sang, everybody wrote, everybody produced - and had great fun doing so.
The back of the gutar fetaures the Traveling Wilbury graphics with facsimile autographs of each of the 5 band members. They did NOT use their own names of course.
Great guitar, collectible sure to gain in value and a modest opening bid.
