These Sears Silvertone amps sound absolutely amazing. In the past 5-10 years, they have gained some attention and notoriety through use by the White Stripes. These handwired amps back in the 60’s were cheap department store amps, but the labor and inflation of today would be similar to a $2000 handwired boutique amp, so these are a real steal. The materials used when these were made were cheap, pressed particle board and aluminum chassis, but the handwired circuitry is where all that vintage tone comes from. This amp head is roughly 30 watts, features 4 inputs, 2 channels, bass/ treble/ volume controls for each, standby and on/off switch, as well as tremolo and reverb controls for the second channel. The cabinet for the chassis looks like it has been repaired and is a little rough around the edges through it’s 40 year lifetime, but it is intact (see photos of the sides). The aluminum face is in good shape with hardly any pitting. This auction is only for the head. There have a been a few modifications to the amp: Two external ¼” speaker jack outputs were added so you can use a variety of speakers (4 ohm and 8 ohm). A 3 prong, grounded, AC power cable replaced the original 2 prong so you won’t get shocked. And it looks like the previous owner replaced the output transformer possibly because the original one died.
