This is an extraordinary guitar made by Julius Borges. Julius is considered
by many to be one of the best luthiers to come along in this second
'golden age' of the acoustic guitar. Those players who have had the chance
to try a Borges guitar are often left trying to figure out how to get a
Borges of their own. Julius is a one man shop. Each instrument is made carefully to tight specifications based on Golden Age Martins and Gibsons. It is amazing that he is able to not only make these instruments LOOK like the old master instruments, but, also capture the sound of the period as well. The finish is hand applied to create the patina of the old master grade instruments of the Golden Age.
This guitar was made in 2005 and is a perfect marriage of fiddleback mahogany of the highest quality and master grade Adirondack, the Holy Grail of spruces. The body is bound in tortoise plastic bindings. The headstock is a breathtaking piece of old growth brazilian rosewood that would stop any afficciando in his tracks. The bridge is a copy of the 1929 Martin OM that Jules copied to make this guitar. The saddle, nut, end pin and strap button are highly colored fossilized ivory from John Mickelson, hand picked for me. The nut width is 1 3/4' and the string width at the saddle is the usual 2 3/8' that Jules uses for his Golden Era reproductions. The guitar comes with a custom made Cedar Creek OM case made specifically for Julius Borges. The case is in near mint condition, as is the guitar. I am sure there may be an imperfection somewhere on each. But, it has been played. If you want to rate condition, I would say
