I bought this early 70's Les Paul in 1980, with the idea that I would learn more if I actually had a guitar. The first owner had treated it well, and was not a professional player, nor member of a band. I got married the next year, and now I have 2 in college, and still this wonderful guitar sits in its case, rarely seeing daylight. None of the kids took up the instrument, and my interactions with it, have been to get it out every couple of months, tune it up and play it just several times per year. It is all original, nothing changed from the factory to my knowledge. It is a rare walnut finish, only one of 112 Les Pauls finished this way in 1971 and 1972, according to the Blue Book of Electric Guitars, by Zachary R. Fjestad.
The serial number is 620414, and MADE IN U.S.A. just below it
There are a couple of dings on this guitar, as you might suspect for a 37 year old instrument. Most notably a ding on the back top of the headstock, a small chip just below the tuners on the back of the neck and some pitting on the chrome bridge. There are some scratches on the back where you'd expect to see a guitar this age bare from buckle wear. The top appears to be one-piece, rather than the normal bookended 2 piece tops. It looks like this top was chosen for its clarity and straight grain for the special and rare walnut finish. The trim work has a wonderful creme patina on both the body and the neck. The pictures really don't do it justice, and my apologies.
Original hardshell case is included.
