This gorgeous instrument is a 1985 model 810 made in the Lemon Grove facility by Bob Taylor, himself. Taylor collectors know that guitars from this era are highly sought and regarded as vintage in much the same way as pre-war Martins are to Martin enthusiasts. It’s not difficult to understand when one sees the quality of materials, craftsmanship and beauty of this instrument. Everything about it is exceptional. The action is perfect. It plays effortlessly, yet the strings are not mushy. The tone is crystal clear and the sustain is wonderful. When it was made, the 810 model was the top of the Taylor line and the instrument’s quality is apparent to anyone who sees or hears it. The split diamond abalone fret inlays stand out dramatically against the ebony fret board. The back and sides are beautiful choice rosewood and there is a tasteful herringbone center strip joining the two halves of the back. The top is extremely close-grained sitka spruce, which does have some fine weather checking as one might expect from an instrument of this vintage. The ebony bridge is accented by ebony pins with abalone dots. The soundhole rosette is abalone and the tuners are gold Grovers. The instrument is all original with no alterations. There is one flaw…a ding on the edge of the treble-side lower bout and I have included a close-up photo. To see this guitar is like opening a time capsule.
