here we have a washburn guitar it says inside genuine washburn tonk bros chicago sole distributers the numbers 970 inside up by the neck and the numbers 5200 my research on the net says that this is 1930s or late 1920s the gentleman who brought this in is in his 70s and he got it from his wifes grandfather .there are scratches on the back and sides but for the most part i think this guitar could be restored please look closely at the photos this is a very old guitar and will need some attention . the following is the history of the tonk bros

The Tonk Bros. Company of Chicago acquired the Washburn trademark in the late 1920's from Lyon and Healy. The new Tonk Bros. instruments were built by Stewart in the early run, and by Regal from 1930 onwards. Tonk Bros. guitars are highly regarded as well-built and good sounding instruments. the tonk brothers used a serial number that reflects the year built and according to my resaerch this was in the eraly 30s or late 20s

Did Tonk ever branch out into larger guitars such as a dreadnought or Auditorum? This goes for Washburn as well.
