Vintage Gibson BR-4 Amp 1946-1947 Rare The BR series was one of the first product
lines of Gibson amps produced after WWII and manufactured only in 1946
-1947. Made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The ‘BR’ in BR-4 stands for Barnes &
Reinecke, the company that designed these amps for Gibson. This is a relatively rare model - unable to
find any information on production numbers.
The amp is in excellent
operating condition. It has had a
thorough cleaning and a new, COMPLETE CAP JOB using high end Atom & Sprague
electrolytics and Orange drop signal caps.
A grounded power cord with rubber grommet replaced the (non-original)
power cord. All other components are
all original. There’s a little
static on the Tone control heard only while pot is being turned (I left the
original pots intact to keep the amp as
original as possible). Otherwise, the
amp and speaker sound great.
Two tone brown/cream leatherette covering, patterned grillcloth and two
wooden strips across the front. Bottom
mounted, painted chassis. Rated at 14
watts. (1) Mic and (2) instrument inputs.
12” Utah field coil speaker.
Tubes appear to be the original all RCA brand. Preamp and driver tubes are (1) 6SJ7, (1)
6SL7, & (1) 6SN7. (2) 6V6 power
tubes & (1) 5Y3 rectifier (left to right as viewed from the back of the
