This Gibson guitar dates back to 1955. It is an LG-2
body, as is stamped on in the inside of the body. W is the first letter of the factory number, which stands for
The 1955 LG-2 model features an X-braced spruce top with
sunburst finish, mahogany back, sides and neck, pearl dot fingerboard inlays,
Brazilian rectangle rosewood bridge with two pearl dots and black bridge pins,
and silkscreen gold decal “Gibson” logo. The X-braces are placed lower than the
LG-2’s from previous years. The pickguard is a larger teardrop shape with a
pointed top. 1955 was the year that Gibson added an additional fret to the
neck, making 20 frets total. These guitars have a 24.75” scale length and are
14 1/8” wide.
This guitar does show some
age, but it has not been abused. It still has the beautiful, full sound that
the LG-2’s are known for. Everything is original except for the tuning gears
and two of the bridge pins (and strings, of course).
The original “alligator”
soft-shell case is included, but is in rough shape.
