This is a beautiful one-owner Taylor 420 with Rosewood sides and back. In 1997 I walked away from my job in corporate America and, 4 months later, bought this guitar. I had not played in decades, and never imagined having such a fine instrument. I've played it off and on the past ten years. At times, I've threatened to sell it, and now I must. I've accumulated quite a stable of guitars, and I find I no longer play this beauty. I have another Taylor, a more expensive one, that is my main acoustic. Still, when taking this one out to take pictures for this listing, I had second thoughts.....It plays so nicely. And has such a nice balanced tone. And when I play 'Who'll Stop the Rain' the guitar never flattens out when I dig into hard strumming at the climax. It just gets louder without losing the tonal balance.
But I must sell it. I have treated it well: No Smoking Home. Never gigged. Always humidified in a climate-controlled home. But it is not in Mint condition. There is a minuscule chip in the rosewood side on the lower bout, about where it would rest on my leg. And an area on the headstock, near the tuning peg for the low E string where it appears that the laminate is peeling on a circle about 1/8' in diameter. As well, there is a little pick scuffing on the pickguard (that's why its there, right?). Its been played, but played nicely. The case has some minor scuffs on it, because for years this was the guitar I would take to my guitar lessons. And once or twice I even played it on summer evenings on my back deck.
