Up for your consideration is one early 1970s Gibson SG. The serial number is 967724. According to the Guitar Dater website that puts this guitar in the 1970-1972 range in production at the Kalamazoo, MI plant. This guitar is the traditional 'Cherry' color. It has one of those old Maestro style vibrato/tremelo units. The tuners have been replaced (poorly) with Gibson/Kluson style tuners (See pics). This guitar has obviously been played and carries a few battle scars, which I've tried to document in the pictures as well. If you have EVER wanted to have some good old-fashioned Gibson mojo in your hands, this is THE guitar. If I didn't have my own 1978 SG, I would probably try to get this one for myself. This guitar comes with an SKB style hardshell case, that is in pretty good shape.
to appreciate this guitar, you need to know a little of it's history.
This unit was bought by an avid guitar collector, who happened to be my
brother-in-law. He dearly wanted to become a killer guitarist (he
already was an incredible drummer), and he collected some awesome
gear. In his fits of 'G.A.S.' or 'guitar acquisition syndrome,' he
racked up over 50 guitars. Unfortunately, he was killed in a
head-on collision on his way to work in October of 2006. His wife has
been the custodian of these guitars since that time, and they have
simply sat nestled in their cases until recently. A massive flood on
the Neosho river in Southeast Kansas threatened to flood her basement
where all the guitars were kept.&n
