This is a 1998 Fender Custon Shop 1951 Esquire aka Pinecaster that was Closet Classic Reliced, which means it got a like relicing that entails finish checking and some oxidation to the nickel parts. While it's not the ultra limited Snake Head Prototype Pinecaster, it is a rare bird nevertheless. This one is in mint like condition and the only wear was put on by the Fender Custom Shop!
It is very correct in detail, i.e., No Truss Rod, No Wire Channel from the Neck pickup to the control cavity, No String Tree, 2 pickups with blender wiring, Steel Saddles, No Skunk Stripe, etc.
It is easily identified as a ''Pinecaster'' by the wood grain and the pine knot in the neck pocket!
The neck is signed and dated and from what John Page states in a Forum post that John English was in charge of the project. Remember in 1998 there wasn't yet Masterbuilts, but many of these were indeed Masterbuilt!!!
The neck is chubby and with a V profile and is dead straight. The original frets show no wear and it is set-up with ultra low action and without issues such as dead spots or choking.
The pickups are nice and hot at 7.71k (bridge) and 6.84k (neck) and the tone is amazing, a bit bright, but very focused and with excellenty sustain.
BTW, it weighs a mere 6lb's, 3oz's!!!!
It ships in it's original Hardshell Thermometer Tweed Case and has it's COA Signed by John Page and it also has it's original Bridge Cover.
