Price : US $2,000.
The reason I am saying this is rare is Martin made only 14 of this model. 2 were built in 1972 and this one is one of 12 that were built in 1981. It is branded on the neck block as a 4-28. The warranty papers show it as a 1428. The Gruhn vintage guitar guide shows it as a 1/4-28 on page 441. I refer to it as a travel guitar on account of its diminutive size. The overall length is 27'. The body is the same size as their Tiple with a lower bout width of 8 and 15/16' and uses the same 17' scale. The nut is 1 & 5/8' wide. Don't make the mistake of comparing this to the current Backpacker model. This was built with the same skill and materials as the D-28 and other style 28 Martins of this era. This instrument is in excellent condition, showing minimal playing time. There is some normal, but minor weather checking and shrinkage of the lacquer finish you would expect for an instrument of this age. I have never tried different string gauges or tunings. It might take some experimentation to get the most out of this little guitar. It comes with the never filled out or sent in warranty papers and its original hardshell case. The original end pin is in the case pocket along with the original case key. I am not the original owner and don't know where it was originally purchased, so the warranty's value is mainly in the historical documentation.
I normally ship by Fedex or USPS and charge actual cost.
Thanks for checking it out and Good Luck s
