The most sought after 1997 TAYLOR 814C guitar (serial is 9707071xx, with the old label, back when Robert Taylor really signed).Abalone soundhole rosette, solid Sitka spruce top, mahogany neck, gold Grover tuners, ,white binding on body and neck. The body is a Grand Auditorium with a Venetian (rounded) cutaway. All white bound with the center binding on the back having a special thin red stripe. Beautiful Sitka spruce top has many impossible to photograph micro-blemishes but no cracks or repairs. Taylor's overly glossy lacquer has mellowed a bit and the spruce has aged to a rich orange. Back and sides are Indian rosewood and the bridge and fretboard are ebony. The action is low all the way down with no buzzing or intonation problems. The frets have worn a bit over the years but still have lots of life. The guitar is in excellent cosmetic condition but does have small nicks and scuffs here and there. Neck is flawless; straight . The top-of the-line Taylor case is in excellent condition inside and still smells new.
It does not have the electronics built in, but instead has a pick-up installed by Taylor under the bridge, which I spent $275 on the professional installation of a a wonderfully natural sounding Fishman Matrix undersaddle transducer pickup. I'm not fond of Taylor's CE series where they cut/drill holes on the sides of their guitars (a fine guitar will never go out of style, but a plastic box of electronics?).
The craftsmanship on the 800 series is simply fantastic. This powerful, nuanced 814 has the balanced tonality in all registers that Taylor is famous for...especially the bass on this guitar is rich and full wi
