1964 Gibson Barney Kessel Custom, not all original, but an absolute beauty. From the pinnacle of the McCarty era at Gibson. Incredible neck, identical in construction to L5 neck of the same vintage. Original finish with beautiful checking. GREAT action, GREAT sound, the essence of a superb Gibson archtop electric jazzbox. The peculiarities? I think most of the hardware is replaced, certainly the tailpiece, the tuners, and the pickups, all the highest quality, but not original. The pickups are especially interesting. I quizzed a custom pickup winder who was a Shaw expert about these and he said he thought these are Tim Shaws. I opened them up and they had the Shaw bobbins with the square holes at the end (like PAFs). They had the right rough magnets. They also both have an additional serial number stamped 097584 (he said not all Shaws have the same serial number). In any event, they sound exceptional, with that clarity and sweet detail that is characteristic of good PAFs. There was a headstock crack at some point. It didn't go all the way through and was professionally glued so it is a clean repair with absolute structural integrity. There is a depression in the lacquer along the crack. A good luthier could drop fill lacquer there to make the finish absolutely even. As is, I don't notice it at all when playing. Comes in new hard shell case. You will love this instrument if you are a serious jazzer rather than a collector. Check my feedback. I'm an honest seller and experienced shipper.
