This is an old Gibson L-1 with arched top and back and round soundhole. The serial number on the label has faded considerably but I believe the first 2 numbers are possibly 55, dating the guitar to 1919. I am selling the instrument as-is as project to someone with the requisite luthier skills. I am not a repair person but will describe the guitar as well as I can. This is the larger model with the 13 1/2 inch body. The body and neck are good and solid and do not have any cracks, serious dings or obvious repairs. The finish has deteriorated somewhat particularly on top where most of the gloss is gone. The bridge, tailpiece and probably the tuning machines are all later replacements. The neckbinding has edges and appears to be plastic so it is also a replacement. Sighting down the neck it looks nice and straight from the headstock to the body but dips very slightly downward as it passes over the body - You might be able to adjust this with a shim under the fingerboard. The first few frets have wear but I think when the guitar is properly set up they might be usable. As the instrument is now set up the string height at the 12th fret is low [about 3mm] but the high strings buzz at the first few frets. There is a shallow finger wear rut on the fingerboard at the first position and little lines and nicks on the headstock. I believe these are the major issues but please contact me if you have any questions. Free shipping anywhere in the continental US. I do not have a proper case for he guitar but will ship it in an old beaten up soft case for protection.
