Ca 1900 Lyon & Healy ? Antique bowl back mandolin
This guitar is no longer for sale (sold on 2008-08-26)
Price : US $67.00
An old circa 1900 (best estimate) Lyon & Healy (a guess) bowlback mandolin with fancy inlays. 28 ribs, inlays as shown, but not in the greatest of condition. It measures 24' long, has an inlay on the headstock, ivory or celluloid tuners, neck is nice but does have a pit mark on the fretboard. Much of the inlay work is intact, but some areas missing or need of restoration.
There is a thin, tight crack extending from the base to the soundhole. Otherwise, it appears to be in pretty sound condition. It does play okay, and actually has a nice, loud tone.
Also included is the orginal wooden case, which to me is probably more rare than the mandolin. It's not in very good shape, as only one back hinge present, and wood missing in the front, etc. But it's still pretty cool.
Ask for more information if you need it - not a mandolin expert, but I'll give it a shot.
Postage will be $25.00, (due to box size) optional insurance extra. Please take a look at my other antiques up for auction. LEGALESE: No returns, so please ask all questions before bidding. Checks, money orders or Paypal accepted. Checks have to clear. Payment must be received within 14 days, or I reserve the right to cancel the auction.
