Vintage used Harmony Sovereign Jumbo. Made in USA. For those of you not familiar with this model, the Sovereign was Harmony's top of the line acoustic guitar made from the late 1950's through the early 70's. They were made with all premium select woods. Brazelian rosewood fretboard and bridge, 0ne piece mahogany back and spruce top. Many guitar manufacturers used and still use a two piece split back to reduce construction cost. Not on these babies! The back is one large solid piece. Ladder bracing, vintage baseball bat neck, 1 3/4'' nut great for fingerpicking or flat picking, full length bone saddle.
Pete Townsend (The Who) used one of these extensively, also the acoustic intro to Led Zepplins ''Stairway to Heaven'' was played on a Sovereign. Also blues men Lightnin Hopkins and Mance Lipscomb. Huge deep bass tone and clear trebles, this guitar is a boomer! The tone is somewhere between the dry raspy tone of a vintage Gibson and the rich overtones of an old Martin.
I have several of these guitars and love them all. This particular guitar has no fret wear and appears to have been someones under the bed guitar. If your looking for a pristine vintage guitar, this is not it! It has numerous finish cracks and dings. None of the cracks appear to go into the wood itself. Because of the light construction, which gives these guitars a great tone, most Sovereigns need a neck reset to be playable. This guitar does not need one, but the action is a little high, it is 8/64ths at the 12th fret. Most p
