If you had an FG-180 guitar in the late 60's and wish you had never gotten rid of it, THIS IS THE GUITAR FOR YOU!
This is a no reserve auction. Top bidder wins.
This is an authentic Red Label FG-180 Yamaha that has been in storage for 40 years. It was my aunts guitar and she willed it to her daughter who recently passed it on to me. The label is gone from inside the guitar but the low serial # substantiates it being a Red Label Nippon Gakki. I also have the Yamaha Nippon Gakki neck hang tag that came on the guitar new.
The reason the Red Label is gone is as follows. When Yamaha produced these guitars they did not cover the sound hole when spraying the lacquer finish. The result was the inside body of the guitar became filled with lacquer killing the volume. The strings were removed, the label removed and the inside was hand sanded. This turned them into cannons and made Martin players hate them. A lot of players back then scraped the name Yamaha off the peghead and even sawed the peghead top flat so they would look like Martins. I don't know what happened to the label but wish it had been re-installed. As you can see this guitar is flawless. It has a couple almost un-noticable dings in the top and virtually no scratches.
This guitar is a great player. It has a wonderful tone and is very loud. It can be easily strummed, finger or flatpicked and is very easy to note.
I thought I would keep this guitar being a family heirloom but in the past couple years never
