A 1960's Kay Archtop guitar in lovely condition, a few marks but very, very, good for a nearly fifty-year-old guitar.
I purchased this guitar from Gibbons Guitar Emporium last month as a present for somebody who it turns out already has a guitar and is not wanting another one. (which is just great :(not)... Especially as I got stung by UK customs for VAT.
Kay guitars were made in Chicago under many different brand names and can vary enormously in quality.
This is a good one, there are no issues with it. I'm assuming it must have spent a great deal of its life in a case.
The action at the 12th fret is an 1/8 inch but it can be lowered still further.
The neck is very good,it has a non-adjustable truss rod (like many guitars of that era, including the old Nationals) and shows no signs of ever having moved.
The tuners are original, as is the pickguard. It comes with an old-fashioned case but I will also pack it very carefully.
