Welcome to my auction featuring a rare pre-war 1922 Martin 2-17 parlor guitar. In 1921 the family business of C.F. Martin and co. was incorporated. 1922 saw Martin's first cataloged steel strung model guitar, the 2-17. The 17 suffix described the body - mahogany body, spruce top, rosewood finger board, pearl dot inlays, stained semi-gloss shellac finish, dark bindings, 19 frets, 12 frets clear of the body. The 2 prefix identified the size- 12''width, 4'' depth, and 24.5'' scale.
In 1922, 1080 units were produced. This model has a serial # 17475.
Over all this Martin is in great shape both structurally and aesthetically. Some Martin collectors my be put off because at one point my grandfather electrified this 2-17. This modification was then reversed and covered with a matching mahogany patch. There is a small notch in the sound hole for the pickup. This in no way effects the playability or wonderful sound produced by the instrument. The repair in my opinion blends into the instrument about as well as can be.
The body, neck, bridge, and bracing are all in good shape. Original tuner hardware is in good condition. Action seems slightly high and first 3 frets show wear but not damage. Guitar was recently strung with extra light Martin 80/20 strings.
This vintage Martin parlor guitar is such a wonderful pleasure to play. My grandfather played this guitar since he was a child for good reason. This guitar is being offered at no reserve. Please bid to win this lovely pei
