Nice vintage Gibson MK-53. Spruce top, maple back & sides. All solid woods. Maple neck. Rosewood fretboard and bridge.
This guitar was a design collaborative, include Michael Kascha, George Gruhn, Gibson Guitars, and others, back in the 1970s-80s. The wide bridge is a clue to Kascha's design influence. It also used a modified version of his bracing design.
It makes for anice guitar, with a different tone than a typical jumbo sized guitar. Currently strung with light strings, it has a nice open, even tone, not a ''choked'' sounding as a typical jumbo guitar. Super low action, plays like a ''fretless wonder'', action like an electric guitar. Frets may have been dressed and leveled in the past, not sure, but there is no sign of it - just low, fast frets.
The tuners look like vintage replacements. The saddle has been professionally replaced with a new one, properly spaced and shimmed for the original wide slot. A few minor bumps, dents to the finish, and nicks, but nothing through the finish.
Many of these guitars were sold as ''seconds'' straight from Gibson due to issues they had in building the unique design. THIS ONE IS NOT A SECOND, and is not stamped or marked anywhere.
