Martin D 40
This guitar is a cannon of sound. It is a bluegrass killer but also offers a wonderfully warm tone for waltzes, fingerpicking and other less aggressive styles. I played this in a typical bluegrass setting and it cuts right through the ensemble. It offers a fantastic and balanced rhythm tone and a bright flatpicking sound to challenge those banjo players' egos.
I purchased the guitar as slighlty used in 2003 -- it is a 2002 model. The guitar has been played by me and is well broken-in. Recent maintenace performed by a Martin authorized luthier included a repair of a soundboard humidity crack (the repair was very sucessful and the old separation is barely visible), a refret through the 7th fret, a complete redressing of all the frets, and a reset of the neck. The guitar stays in tune and plays well up the neck. It capo's well and does not require tuning adjustments. It also has a Fishman pick-up installed beneath the saddle.
In the interest of full disclosre there are a few blemishes worth noting. These were difficult for me to depict in the photos as they are slight. There is a small ''dent'' on the back of the headstock on the side under the low E-string tuner -- see photo. There are a few finish blemishes on the back of the guitar that didn't photo well -- they are surface imperfections only. The auction includes a Martin hardshell case -- see photo of the case handle which is slightly askew on one end.

I have a D40 and I love it. Had many offers to sell and I tell them they don't have enough money to buy it.Also have a D45, but use the D40 more.
