All electronics are original, as are everything else on the guitar, with the exception of the pick guard and the tuning machines. The original bridge inserts are included and in the case; several years back I replaced them with Graph-tech inserts. I’ve had this guitar for a number of years; when I got it the tuners were not the original Klusons; they were an old set of Grovers that were in poor shape. I had them replaced with nickel plated Roto-locks. That was the only work done during my ownership. The pick guard is shorter than it should be, and there are two small holes that are visible from the longer original pick guard. The photos show these. The case is not original, but is totally sound and protective. A wooden hard shell, covered in fake tweed, and crushed velvet lined.
The serial number is 49583; there is no label inside the guitar. Between the neck length, the serial number, and the black covers on the dog ear P-90s, 1962 seems certain. I’ve never pulled the pots out to look at dating—this is a guitar, not a museum exhibit. I bought my first electric guitar, a Gretsch Nashville, in 1962. (Pretty much like every guitar I’ve sold, I wish I had the money and room to keep them all.)
The finish is intact except for a very small wear through on the lower rim (see close up) that is about the size of a shirt cuff button. There is a lovely (to my eyes) all over checking of the finish. The binding has aged to a mellow cream color on the body, though the neck binding is a bit lighter.
