This is a DeArmond M72 in the red flametop finish.  DeArmond was a new line created by Guild guitars - the guitars were made in Korea, but used pickups that were made in the United States. Functionally, this was a great idea - the guitars are very solid and well made, and the pickups have developed a cult following among which they are something of a legend. For reasons no one seems to know, Fender closed the line down after buying the Guild guitar company.

The M72 model was based on the many popular single cutaway designs, with a mahogany body and neck and a 24 and 3/4 inch scale, making it similar to many Gibson guitars. The three primary differences for this model are the highly figured flame top, a chambered body for very light weight and comfort, and the USA made Gold Tone pickups. What sets the M-72 apart from the M-75 and M-77 is the light weight chambered body- the others are to the point of being uncomfortable to play, IMO.  Fender has described the Gold Tones as “the classic that never was,” and they are prized by guitar collectors for their warm and bright tone - excellent for jangly, British, vintage sounds. (The pickups themselves, when you can find them, often go for over $100 a pair.) The action on this guitar is great, and the finish work is wonderful - the bindings are nice and tight, the fretwork excellent, and the neck straight, true, and comfortable in to the hands. Of course, there’s also the great looking flame maple top.  This guitar could probably pass as new from one foot away, still has the plastic on back covers.  Switch tip end is missing, still works.  What looks like spots in the pics are actually glare.  As a Buy It Now bonus I will include the near new hardshell case (otherwise not included).  It is hard to find a had case to fit these, I looked everywhere.  I hate to sell this but I am selling all guitars I dont play...
