The story behind the guitar:
My wife sees a lot of guitars. When I brought this one up from the workshop she said, ''Wow, that's a beautiful guitar.'' As usual she's right. This '56 Goldtop is a beautiful guitar. It was brand new when a shipping accident cracked the neck. The crack ran from the nut down about three inches. The headstock was not detached, the crack was tight and there was no missing wood or damage to the headstock veneer. I spread the crack wide enough to inject some Tite Bond, clamped overnight, refinished and polished. Take a look at the before and after pictures. As you can see there were some through-the-finish scratches on the back. I filled and polished the scratches, but if you look closely, you'll see them. (See pix #11). There are also a few shallow dents that do not break the finish on the back. These minor defects are visible only upon close inspection and have nothing to do with the playability of this fine guitar. The top of this guitar is flawless.
I do a complete setup on all guitars I sell on Ebay. I replaced the plastic nut with a hand-cut (by me) bone nut. I set the action low. There is no fret buzz anywhere on the fretboard. I set up the intonation, which is spot on. Since this is a new guitar, the
frets are in perfect condition. This guitar plays like velvet. The soapbar P-90 pickups have great tone and plenty of output.
If you’re looking for a Les Paul Goldtop you can
spend more than $3,000 on a Gibson '56 Goldtop reissue, buy a brand new
Epiphone '56 Goldtop for between $499 and $5
