Here is another great old Martin! For sale is a 1949 D-28 w/OHSC. Serial number is 108617. This one has made a whole bunch of music and it shows. The finish is worn to a very cool aged patina that can't be recreated in custom shops. The Brazilian rosewood is spectacular! This is a very rare guitar due to the extra binding around the edge. If you look closely you will see that there is an additional row of white/black bindings. There are actually four white plys and four black plys. I called Martin customer service and was told that no mention of extra bindings was noted for this instrument but that is not impossible that the anomaly occurred and was not documented. There a few minor issues. There are two plugged holes in the top from pickup control knobs. There are four very small holes on the bottom of the guitar above the endpin. The endpin is non-original. The pickguard has been patched. The frets are replacements and show little to no wear. The action is medium measuring 1/8'' on the bass side and 3/32'' on the treble at the twelfth fret. The neck profile is a soft V and really feels good. The Kluson single-line tuners are original and work fine. It may have had a neck set, but if it did there is lttle evidence of it. The bridge is a replacement. There may be some overspray on the play area. I am not positive, but I believe this one may have the red spruce top. The grain is distinct and has a lot of coloration.
