2004 Martin D-16 RGT
Classic D-28 sound for less $$
This beautiful Martin D-16 dreadnought was made in Nazareth, PA, in early '04 (serial #9994XX). It features a solid Sitka spruce top and solid East Indian rosewood back & sides; hybrid ''X'' scalloped bracing; gloss finish top/satin finish back & sides; and a mortise/tenon neck joint. Check out the Martin website for exact specs. It's in excellent condition. No dings or scratches. There's very little wear on the frets (90% left). It has never left my house and has been kept in its case when not being played. The sound has ''opened up'' a lot. It's fuller and richer than when I bought the guitar.
Hands down, this is the best dreadnought I've ever owned. I've had several Alvarez-Yairi's (including their top-of-the-line model, a DY-95); Japanese Takamine's; '90s Guilds; and a Gibson Gospel reissue. This Martin is louder, chimier, and more resonant than any of them. Deep, booming bass notes and sparkling, crystalline trebles. It's a superb rhythm guitar. Lots of volume and presence. It sounds great flatpicking leads, too. Lovely, sweet floral smell coming from the rosewood body.
I don't play it enough to justify keeping it. I play primarily with my fingers, not a pick. And I prefer smaller-body guitars, like my Martin 000-16. If you like dreadnoughts and the classic Martin sound, you'll like this guitar. The original hardshell case is included. It has a few scuffs and dings on the front (see pic).
