This jumbo body guitar has a sound like it coming from the bottom of a well. Huge beautiful tone..
It doesn’t have the model number on it, but through research on the internet I was able to determine the model number (1260).
The date stamp inside this guitar says 63. That’s how I determined that it is a 1963.
The sound is amazing, probably as good as an old 1944 000-18 Martin that I had years ago.
There are plenty of small scratches and some dent marks on the back of the neck from a capo of some sort. Over all for as old as it is, I would say it’s in pretty good shape. It plays great on standard open position chords but the neck is in need of being set, if you wanted to play up the neck. The action gets too high as you get closer to the body. I had a luthier set it up as a slide guitar. He put a metal bridge saddle piece in place of the plastic one (which could easily be changed back if you wanted to) and a metal nut riser on it that just slips over the nut (and can be removed easily). I tune it to open tunings and play it as a lap steel guitar. I use a Hawaiian guitar “Stevens Steel” Slide. It is very worthy of playing live on gigs or in the studio, or even just keeping as a desirable collector’s item.
