Kazuo Yairi is one of the last luthiers who still builds guitars by hand. This nice old Alvarez is an in-line decendent of his company. It is the 5020S and is the Silver Anniversary Model which I believe makes it circa 1975. It has a new set of Elixir strings and except for the usually pick scuffing on the pick board, a case scuff mark on the shoulder which polish will probably hide and a couple of small blemishes on the top of the head, this guitar is in mint condition. It has a straight neck and close string clearance that makes it a pleasure to play. The frets are like new. The body and neck construction are mahogany -- the fingerboard is rosewood with pearl inlay and the bridge is ebony. The sound hole decoration is not a decal. This is a beautiful guitar that will become a collectible. Well worth the opening bid. Thanks for your interest. On Jun-29-07 at 12:59:39 PDT, seller added the following information:
A question from a concerned customer has challenged my age on this guitar -- circa 1975. I was basing this date on the Silver Anniversary of Yarir -- the original owner of Alvarez. This was a mistake. The Silver Anniversary model according to the St. Louis Music Company who now owns Alvarez, is bsed on the start up of Alvarez. This guitar is a 1991 or 1992 mid-line model that retailed for $600.00 when it came out at that time. It was a popular guitar used by many artists for stage performances -- was seldom used in the recording studio. I hope this answers questions others of you may have had. It is a nice instrument, just not as old as I had originally listed. Still worth the opening bid. Sorry for any inconvenience.
