Here we have a custom made old growth Brazilian/Adirondack D-28 style acoustic guitar (dating back to 1985) built by former Martin employee and master craftsman Paul Berger. First letís talk about what condition the guitar is in and what repairs/modifications have been done. I am the third owner of the guitar and any repairs or modifications were completed before I purchased the guitar. Aesthetically speaking, the guitar is in very good condition. There are no major dings, but there are the normal scratches/play wear for a guitar of this age. There is finish checking on the back, sides, and neck and there is a small belt rash on the back. The finish itself has a few chips in it, but a refinish at this point would be cost prohibitive and could compromise the tone of the guitar. This ultimately is a playerís guitar. Structurally, the guitar is very healthy. There looks to be a small professionally repaired crack in the top and there is a hairline crack below the bridge that looks like it was caused by low humidity sometime in the guitarís history, however, this doesnít affect the tone of the guitar and will remain stable if kept in a humidity controlled environment. The following upgrades were completed by a previous owner: installation of a fossilized mammoth bridge, nut, and bridge pins w/ large abalone dots. The small plain white celluloid fret markers were replaced w/ larger abalone dots. Also, the guitar had a complete fret job about four years ago. Though thereís some minor wear in the first three frets, they still have plenty of life in them. The neck is SOLID on this guitar. Itís essentially modeled after a mid-sixties D-28, and thatís basically what you get. This may be for construction purposes to prevent bowing, but itís certainly worked because the neck is straight and true. The action is set at near Martin specs Ėplenty of room to lower. The fret board width at the nut is a typical Martin 1-11/16Ē. The guitar has a forward shifted X...
