I got this a few months ago in a trade. I have always been curious about Tokai, a lot of people boast that they are better than Gibsons, I had to find out for myself so I pulled the trigger in it. A friend of mine brought it back from Japan with him for some girl he was going to sell it to but she already bought LP Studio. He was stuck with this and told me about it as soon as it was available. At 1st glance it looks great, my friend said that the girl that he got this for liked this better than her LP Studio, but didn't have the money for both. I took the guitar apart, re-dressed the frets and bought a Tusq nut (those work great in a pinch). The pickups were OK but I switched them out with an older Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and a custom made Torres pickup at the neck, new CTS Pots and Gibson wiring. I wasn't blown away by this guitar but after a setup and some new pickups and pots it was pretty damn good. I have 3 real Les Pauls (2 70's and 1 GT VOS) and this was nowhere near any one of them, but still a lot better than most Epi's I've played. Great Back up guitar, good copy and looks great.I am a purist when it comes to LP's, it has to be Gibsons or I wont like them, just the way I am conditioned I guess. Shoot over an offer if you are interested. Trades are welcome, but not for other import guitars. Let me know what you have
In the picture it looks like an "orange" burst, it is actually more brown tiger top than orange burst. It won't let me post a high resolution picture.
