Everything is right about this guitar. Beautiful sunburst color. Lightweight, non-weight relieved body with long tennon. It's easy to see why Les Pauls that weigh under 9 pounds are in such demand. This guitar simply sings when it's unplugged. It almost sounds like a semi-hollow body. Compared to my Stratocaster this guitar is at least twice as loud unplugged. Plugged in it shines like no other. I owned a Gibson 58 re-issue and sold that, when it was apparent that this guitar sounded better. I recorded both the '58 and this Orville by Gibson at the same settings and had my guitar buddies listen without telling them which is which. They all picked the Orville, thinking it was the '58.
I've played a real 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard before (Dave's Guitar in Lacrosse, WI), and I'm here to say that this thing is very close. The real '59 had a bigger neck and a little different feel, but not by much! This is probablly the closest you can get to a real '59 without either buying a Gibson '59 re-issue or buying a real '59.
