1991 Gibson Les Paul Studio with gold hardware. This guitar sounds great and has aged well with a cool vintage vibe to it. I really like the sound and look of the guitar, but im a fender guy and some things will never change.
Problems: The headstock is cracked in which was there before I owned it. The there are some cracks in the paint, and underneath it appears that there are two parallel cracks neck that go with the wood grain (perpendicular to the standard les paul neck breaks). I cant tell if underneath the paint crack going across the neck is cracked too, but i suspect that it is not. There is also a broken drill bit in the truss rod cavity. I was told by a guitar repair man that that the drill bit could be be drilled out and removed fairly easily by someone who is knowledgeable with guitar repair, but i havent been able to remove it with noninvasive means. My theory is that the previous owner over torqued the neck using a drill when making a truss rod adjustment and cracked the neck. This would account for the unusual cracks in the neck and broken drill bit. But this is just conjecture. The neck is straight so I assume the truss rod is in good shape. I was quoted by a guitar shop for $200 to break the neck then repair and repaint it. They also said that the neck feels pretty solid as is and that it would be best to play the guitar as is, and if it breaks bring it in for repair. The good news is that action is pretty good as is with 11s on it, and the guitar is very playable out of the box. However it would benefit from a good setup. One of the plastic pickup covers has a piece broken off it, and the other has a small crack
