NEAR MINT. 2004 R0. Phosphorescent 3-D top. Bookmatched flame, rift sawn EASTERN Maple. Just like the originals. Some great mineral flecking. Even the flecks seem to flicker, the tops is really amazing. Weighs 8.9 lbs. The back is very rich DEEP red and not pink- faded like some recent Historics have been. Very focused and dynamic tone. The proverbial freight train.  Honduras Mahogany, and dark Madagascar rosewood board. I do not know what else to tell you, this is just a fantastic Les Paul, and far more beautiful in person. Very loud ringing tone, even unplugged. Resonance Baby.. The R0s are the most accurate Historic Les Pauls, the neck profile is closer to vintage and the tailpiece positioning (being the same on all Historics) only correlates to the 1960 Les Paul bursts. 2004 marks the last year Burstbuckers use the correct enamel coil wire. Starting in 2005 Gibson switched to poly coated wire, colored maroon, to LOOK like the enamel wire. There in one modification on this Les Paul (all else is original) I put on single line, double ring Kluson tuners, as opposed to the double line, double ring Gibson tuners that come on these, just a more accurate detail.

Unlike even 2007 Les Pauls listed on Ebay, as advertised as ''mint'', this does NOT have worming, buckle/rivet/button marks on the back. For some reason, it is assumed that near mint Guitars could have such. I assure you, I would never rate my Les Pauls as ''near mint'' if there were rivet marks on the back.

Let me explain about the tailpiece. In 1955 when Les Pauls first had the Tune-o-matic bridges, they moved the stoptail piece south (of course) . The TOM was placed about where the stoptail piece was on previous models. For some reason (error? design?) the Stoptail was located so that the right stud was about 1/16'' or so, HIGHER...
