Price : US $4,999.
Up for auction is a 1966 ES-335 semi-hollow guitar, 100% original from the electronics to the double line/double ring Kluson Deluxe tuners and in breathtakingly clean shape - some would say near mint. I have owned it since 2004 but have been afraid to take it out of the case too often for fear of diminishing the condition. (It is in the same shape in which I bought it, as pictured in one of the dealer's photos here.) The gorgeous ice tea finish (walnut-stained sides) and chrome hardware still gleam, the plating is intact on the rare long Bigsby, and the guitar has only very light checking. The back of the guitar has very a very attractive grain pattern, with a bit of bird's eye figuring. The original black/yellow Lifton case with gold Gibson plaque is in similarly excellent shape. The only signs that the guitar has been used are a tiny bit of inconsequential finish wear around the fifth position on the back of the neck and just a little pitting on the lower region of the fretboard. While the nut width is 1 and 9/16 inches, it plays extremely well and has a comfortable action and there is plenty of life left in the frets. The guitar sounds lively unplugged and warm and powerful plugged in through a mid-'60s Fender Vibrolux Reverb. As a bonus, the guitar will come with the original owner's 1966 Gibson catalog, in which he apparently compared some of the Gibson models to their Guild counterparts - see the detail in the photo. (Obviously, Gibson won out.) Would prefer cashier's check as payment, and winner to pay $75 for US shipping/handling/insurance. Would prefer, too, to ship within US.
