A set of Fender Telecaster 1969 pickups. Fender only used the Yellow wires with the black numbers for a short time in 1969. If you look the ground wire is yellow with black numbers from 1 to 8. Fender used this type of wire for only a few months in 1969. In September of 1969 Fender started using a new type of winding wire. One of the CBS bean counters got a good deal on winding wire. Freddie Tavares rejected the wire as unusable, but the CBS guys said to use it. By the time the new wire was being used, the yellow wires were no longer used. The new wire was a very dark purple, almost black. The rubber ground wire also changed to a sort of purple black wire. Both of these pickups were dead when I got them. I sent them to Lindy Fralin for re winding. When Lindy wax pots a Telecaster pickup he pots the pickup with the bottom plate on. A loose bottom plate is one of the reasons that Telecaster pickups squeal. Wax potting the pickup with the plate on reduces the squealing. I did not want to pry up the bottom plate to show the number. The number under the plate ends in 9, meaning a 1969 pickup. The neck pickup reads 6.70 K ohms on my meter. The neck pickup leads are 9 1/2' long. The Bridge pickup reads 6.72 on my meter. The Bridge leads are 7 1/2' long.
